Ingredients
- 750 g rump steak (beef) cut into strips
- 1 tbs oil
- 2 beef stock cube
- 2 tbs cornflour
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 1 onion chopped
- 1 tsp vegemite
Method
1. Brown steak in oil, add onion and cook for 2 minutes.2. Transfer to a large saucepan, add stock cubes, Vegemite and enough water to cover mixture.
3. Simmer for 1½ hours or until tender.
4. Make a paste with the cornflour and a little water and add to meat mixture slowly.
5. Bring to the boil and season with salt and pepper.
6. Grease a pie dish with butter and line with a sheet of the puff pastry.
7. Add meat mixture and top with other sheet of pastry.
8. Brush pastry top with butter or milk. Make slits in top for steam to escape.
9. Bake at 180 C (350 F)until golden brown.
Notes
Is also nice to put slices of tomato on top of mixture before putting pastry on top. We serve it with mashed potato and peas.
